Everything came together quite nicely for the Blue Jay gymnasts Saturday.
Hosting Wahpeton and Grand Forks, the Blue Jays rolled up a season-best score of 142.300, which if it came at region or state, would put the Blue Jays in the top 3 mix.
“From top to bottom everybody did pretty well,” JHS coach Dave Tews said. “Everyone can find something here or there to nit-pick, but you know, it was really good today. There were no gimmies. Our score was pretty legit.”
The Blue Jays generally dominated everything. They had the top six all-around scores with Alex Lind’s 37.7 leading the way.
“You see a 37 and you get all excited, but that’s kind of what a guy expects from her now,” Tews said.
Lind, a senior, made a clean sweep of everything with nothing lower than a 9.3 (vault) and a max of 9.65 on bars.
Erin Hillerud had a nice 35.4, which could have pushed 36 but for a fall on beam and misstep out of bounds on floor.
“That’s a very good score for her and she can go higher,” Tews said.
Kaiann Arellano (34.15) continued her “very consistent” season. Abbie Conlon and Jenna Stilwell had matching 33.9s and Jayden Diemert at 33.4. Stilwell had her best vault (9.25) of the season.
Wahpeton and Grand Forks finished a distance second and third with 126.050 and 125.600, respectively.
“It’s great to be at 142. Can we do it again? I don’t know, but it’s good to know that we have it in us, and hopefully we’re able to find it again here at some point,” Tews said.
The Blue Jays have a limited entry (6) meet coming up on Friday at the Fargo Invite.
