JHS Speech Team competes

The Jamestown High School Speech Team season is under way, said coach Laura Weiss. The first meet scheduled at North Sargent High School was canceled due to inclement weather, so the team’s first performances were held last weekend in Valley City. Here are the results:

The Jamestown High School Speech Team season is under way, said coach Laura Weiss. The first meet scheduled at North Sargent High School was canceled due to inclement weather, so the team’s first performances were held last weekend in Valley City. Here are the results:

In Dramatic Interp, Brittney Carpenter finished eighth, Emily Lauinger seventh and Elizabeth Fremgen was named Top Novice. In Serious Prose, Libby Kruse finished seventh, and Mikayla Patel placed sixth. In Speech to Inform, Jasmine Glasgow finished fifth while Kelsey Becker placed sixth with her Speech to Persuade. In Entertain, Brittany McIntyre earned second-place honors with her speech about procrastination. In Storytelling, Hunter Carpenter earned a fifth-place finish, and in Extemporaneous Speaking Cassie Reidburn finished second. Reidburn also earned a third-place finish in Impromptu Speaking.

In Humorous Duo, Jana Lynch and Brittany McIntyre placed sixth and Mikayla Patel and Emily Lauinger finished fifth. In Serious Duo, Patel and Brittney Carpenter placed seventh and Reidburn and Libby Kruse placed sixth.

Four speakers qualified for the state meet on April 20 in Jamestown. They are Jana Lynch in Impromptu Speaking, Kruse in Poetry, Glasgow in Radio Broadcasting and Morgan Baumgartner in Serious Prose.
