Fiddle Festival is scheduled Saturday

The Society for the Preservation of the Former Governors’ Mansion will be holding the sixth annual Arthur A. Link Fiddle Festival at noon Feb. 2 at the Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site in Bismarck. Violin students from across North Dakota are invited to participate. The festival is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

The Arthur A. Link Fiddle Festival promotes Link’s love of music and provides an opportunity for music making in a fun and informal manner. Link was a musician and violin player. He met his wife Grace at a dance while playing violin in the band.

This year’s festival will include performances by students enrolled in local elementary school orchestra programs. The Link Fiddle Festival will start at noon, with brief remarks from Grace Link and Society for the Preservation of the Former Governor’s Mansion President Bruce Hagen. Elementary student performances will start immediately afterward and run throughout the afternoon.

Any student string musician throughout the region is welcome to perform during the “open mic” section of the festival. A student may play any piece of their selection. A piano in the parlor is available for use. Students interested in performing during the open mic section may contact site supervisor Johnathan Campbell at 328-9528 or Jcampbell@nd.gov to schedule a performance time.
