Jamestown’s Cabin Fever Days will include shared soup and a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.

Cabin Fever Days, organized by the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department, will take place Feb. 1-10 at locations around Jamestown. Most events take place on the weekends of Feb. 1-3 and Feb. 8-10.

Joyce Heinrich said she is hoping for a good turn out when the Elks Lodge No. 995 hosts its inaugural Soup for Saturday event as part of Cabin Fever Days from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at the Elks Lodge, 324 Second Ave. SW.

“We just opened our new lodge two months ago,” Heinrich said. “I think we’re going to have a good turnout after all the cold weather we’re supposed to get.”

Participants should bring a pot of home-made soup to share if possible. Heinrich said the lodge will provide bowls, table service, crackers and beverages.

“We want people to come in and spend time getting to know each other,” she said.

A free-will offering will be collected for the Elks Camp Grassick, a summer camp run by the Elks of North Dakota for children and adults with special needs.

Jamestown Park and Recreation Department Director Doug Hogan said the purpose of Cabin Fever Days is to get people out of their houses during a slow time in winter.

“Typically we have some long winters,” Hogan said. “People are cooped up and it’s nice to have some events to get people out and doing something.”

The Cabin Fever Days schedule includes a wide variety of sporting events, from youth hockey tournaments over both weekends, to a co-ed softball tournament starting at 11 a.m. on Feb. 9 at the McElroy Softball Complex.

“This is a chance for people to get out and try something different,” Hogan said. “Winter doesn’t have to be dark and gloomy, just get outside and have some fun.”
