Amber Schaack’s ability on the power play shined brightly at Fargo North on Thursday night.
The Jamestown High?School senior scored three goals — giving her 27 on the season — and two came while on special teams as the Blue?Jays left Fargo with a 4-3 win.
“It’s not like we set it up real well, but we got the puck to the net,” Jamestown coach Brad Schaack said.
Ally?Dion actually got scoring started with a goal midway through the first. Haley?Hillstrom picked up the assist.
The first part of Schaack’s hat trick came in the second period, when she scored without an assist to give the Blue?Jays a 2-0 advantage.
North responded with an unassisted goal from Ali Vannett in the second.
Nonetheless, the Jays fired right back with two consecutive power--play goals from Schaack, a Concordia College commit. Dion assisted on the first one.
Jamestown ran into trouble in the third period, when North scored two power-play goals with the help of five total penalties from?the Blue?Jays. Jamie?Nielsen and Sam Hagen were the culprits, allowing North to get within one with six minutes to go. The?Spartans even pulled their goalie in the final minute to no avail.
Brad Schaack said he was very pleased with the job done by goalie Carissa Finck, who stopped 33 shots. She made a key diving save in the second period.
“That was a highlight save — best of the year,” he said.
Jamestown visits Grand Forks on Saturday. The Blue Jays have already beaten the Roughriders twice this season, but the third time could be difficult. It will be Jamestown’s time on Grand Forks’ home ice this season.
