Next week the public will have the opportunity to buy handmade items to benefit residents at Rock of Ages.

Close to 180 K-5 students in the 21st Century Afterschool Program have been making jewelry, purses, magnets, school supplies and more. The money raised during the four-day sale will go to purchase and deliver flowers to each resident at Rock of Ages.

“We thought ‘what can we do this time of year?’ and one of the ideas we came up with were to do some projects at our afterschool program,” said Shelley Mansavage, site manager for 21st Century After School Program.

The afterschool program has students at four schools. Each school next week will have a sale for an hour a day.

The sales are from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. It starts on Monday at Louis L’Amour, Tuesday at Roosevelt, Wednesday at Lincoln and Thursday at Washington. Each sale will be held in the gym.

Students will be selected to hand deliver the flowers on Feb. 13.

The 21st Century Afterschool Program has taken field trips to Rock of Ages before, and has played games and read with residents there.
