Letters to the editor: Jamestown is a hub, a necessary part of SCDRC

Jamestown is a hub in a nine-county region. We have the Jamestown Regional Medical Center; the Jamestown Regional Airport. New Rockford has the Dakota Regional Center for the Arts; Jamestown is the center for mental health services in this nine-county region. We have an opportunity to have a regional library should our leaders realize that a library is not to be compared with a downtown business. We have a state-of-the-art movie theater complex.

As a hub, the roads, (like spokes) go out and back to keep this big economic wheel turning. Citizens of Jamestown work outside of the Jamestown area in these other counties. People from those other counties work in Jamestown. We attend functions, plays, restaurants, church dinners, tourist attractions and museums outside of our county and they come to Jamestown to our plays, movies, to shop, to eat, buy cars and machinery.

The office for the South Central Dakota Regional Council serving these nine counties is in Jamestown. Why would anyone even entertain the idea of dropping out of the SCDRC?
