Letter to the editor: More coverage needed for Special Olympics athletes

In Jamestown and North Dakota we spend a ton of money promoting what we have and the opportunities to succeed here, yet when somebody does succeed because of the people and facilities we have we don’t capitalize on the opportunity.
There are two individuals from North Dakota — and one of them is from Jamestown — who are in South Korea competing in the world Special Olympics at this time and it would have been nice if the local and state media had kept the public up to date on how they are doing in competition and promote their accomplishments to the public. I do thank the newspaper for the articles on the state games in Valley City but do wish they would have kept up with following them like they do with local sports teams. Why would Special Olympics be different, and if you don’t believe that people are interested go to the Facebook page “Blaine’s Olympic Journey” and find out there are a few thousand who are following, some staying up to 11 at night to see the results. I’m sure there are many more if they knew where to look.
I hope that in the future we stand behind our locals all the way to the end. Way to go Tommy Mikkelson and Blaine Schultz (Jamestown).
