Eunice Sahr presented 120 seconds on women’s issues. The topic was “Zonta says No!” toward violence against women and girls. This worldwide campaign started in November 2012 and continues through December 2013. Areas of violence against women being protested against are dowries and violence, violence in the workplace, child marriages etc. Zonta of Jamestown has chosen to assist Central Valley Health District in promoting its activities in the local community toward awareness of violence against women.

Zonta of Jamestown has formed a partnership with Jamestown Girl Scouts to assist where needed in helping with resources for education and badge completion. Members assisted with a Girl Scout lock-in held Jan. 25. After choosing an occupation the girls were assisted in discovering realistic expectations of what they could afford on the salary of their chosen occupations.

On Jan. 27 members met at Laurel Haroldson’s home to view the Swedish movie “Everlasting Moments,” a story how a young woman in the early 20th century uses a camera to alter her life.

Young Women in Public Affairs Award applications are now available by contacting Laurel Haroldson or on the zonta.org website. The local award is $400, District 7 awards up to $1,000 and each of 10 international recipients can receive $4000.

On Dec. 14, Zonta International added a new chapter in Kathmandu, Nepal. Sixty-four countries now have a Zonta club.

The next meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Gladstone Inn & Suites. Visitors are always welcome. Contact Kara Helgeson so a complimentary meal may be ordered.
