Blue Jays notch win No. 15 on the road
Each win is a new record at this point for the JHS girls hockey team. Tuesday night, they pushed the bar to 15. The Blue Jays got two goals from sisters Steph and Torri Kamlitz had a strong night between the pipes from Carissa Finck in a 5-3 win over Mandan. It was not a masterpiece by any means, but it’s three more points in the bank for the 15-5 Blue Jays.

“This was not our best effort. We were a little shaky, especially defensively,” JHS coach Brad Schaack said. “But give Mandan credit. They played their hearts out.”
The JHS blue-liners struggled, forcing Finck into some clutch saves.
“Carissa played a heckuva game. They had several point-blank shots and she was there to bail us out,” Schaack said.
The Blue Jays never trailed. Torri Kamlitz got the ice-breaker at 6:43 of the first.
Steph Kamlitz, who assisted on her sister’s first-period goal, got the next two for a 3-1 JHS lead at the 12:09 mark of the second.
Up 3-2 after two periods, Amber Schaack got her lone goal of the game to extend her streak of scoring in every game this season. She could have had more, though, hitting four pipes and missing on a handful of other breakaways.
Torri Kamlitz put the Jays up 5-2 with her second goal early in the third.
“Carissa played extremely well. So did the Kamlitz sisters, but otherwise it wasn’t our best night,” Schaack said. “But we’ll take the three points and move on.”
The Blue Jays final home game is Friday when they host Dickinson at 7 p.m.
