Optimist Club cites athletes for awards

Morgan Huber and Cullen Goter of Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Hannah Steele and Garrett Tenney of Jamestown College have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Morgan Huber and Cullen Goter of Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Hannah Steele and Garrett Tenney of Jamestown College have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Huber, a senior figure skater, placed seventh in free skate, fourth in artistic, third in short program and second in spins and jumps at the 33rd Annual Northland Figure Skating Competition in Duluth, Minn., Jan. 31-Feb. 3. Huber, with her third place in the short program, is the first James River Figure Skater to place under the new IJS scoring system.

Goter, a senior on the JHS wrestling team, pinned his opponent in the Blue Jays’ dual against Valley City.

Steele, a junior from Circle Pines, Minn., scored 17 points against Valley City State at the Bubble and then totaled 11 points and 12 assists in the Jimmies’ road win over Dakota State.

Tenney, a junior from Gardnerville, Nev., placed second in the weight throw at the Cobber Duals with a career-best of 51-6.25.
