The Jamestown College men’s basketball program has inked three players from the region.
Jeremy Wirtz of Underwood, N.D., Austin Giese of Starbuck, Minn., and Paul Olson of Albertville, Minn., have signed with the Jimmies.
“We’re excited to add this trio to our 2013 recruiting class,” JC head men’s basketball coach Justin Wieck said. “We’ve focused on recruiting both North Dakota and Minnesota in this class, and these three will be an important part of our future.”
Wirtz, a 6-foot-1 guard, is averaging 16.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game and is Underwood’s team captain.
“Jeremy is a local North Dakota student who will bring a great shooting presence to our roster,” Wieck said.
Giese, a 5-11 guard from Minnewaska, Minn., is averaging 10 points and four assists per game currently. He was a Wilson Scholarship finalist and will graduate as the valedictorian of his high school class.
“Austin is a true point guard who can both score the ball and get his teammates involved. We love his toughness and attitude on the court,” Wieck said.
Olson, a 6-6 forward from Rogers (Minn.) High School, is averaging 5.1 points and 3.4 assists in his senior campaign.
“Paul brings both size and skill to our roster in the post. We look forward to working with him on a daily basis to improve,” Wieck said.
