Lind wins three: Jamestown standout takes bars, floor and all-around

Jamestown’s Alex Lind and Fargo’s Faith Marty went toe to toe on Thursday night in the Blue Jays’ final meet of the regular season.

Marty took top honors in the vault and balance beam, but Lind came away with titles in the uneven parallel bars and the floor exercise en route to a meet-winning all-around score of 37.425 at the Jamestown Gymnastics Club.

“She’s the type of kid that even if she has an off meet, she’s still our top kid by three points,” Jamestown veteran coach Dave Tews said of Lind. “Her bars were excellent like usual. Vault, we’re still working on that. Her floor was kind of where we expected it to be, and on the beam she had a fall.”

Thanks to Marty, however, Fargo won the meet with a 142.4, edging the Blue Jays (141.225) by more than a point.

“They deserve it,” Tews said. “The last two meets, they’ve been better than us. They’ve got top-level depth. Our depth is kind of hurting us a little bit right now.”

Still, the Blue Jays posted their second highest total of the season. They scored a 142 earlier this season, but Tews said he felt this was a better performance.

“We’re definitely happy with it,” Tews said. “We’ve got to feel good about that, and we do. … If we get a 142 at WDA, I’d be happy with that.”

Lind scored a 9.625 on the bars and a 9.6 on the floor. She was third in the vault with a 9.375, but her falling on the beam dropped her to ninth with an 8.85.

Erin Hillerud put together a meet she can be proud of, Tews said. She finished fourth in the vault (9.15), fifth on the floor (9.0) and 10th on the bars (8.025) to take seventh in the all-around (34.425).

“Erin had another solid meet,” Tews said.

Jenna Stilwell placed in the top 10 in two of her four events, taking seventh on the beam (8.875), eighth in the vault (9.0) for an all-around finish of ninth with a 34.075. Abbie Conlon also placed in the top 10 in two events, finishing sixth on beam (8.925) and eighth on bars (8.175).

Tews said he was particularly proud of Kailey Alber, who only competes in one event. She scored a 9.0 to take eighth place in the vault.

“That’s the first 9 of her career,” Tews said. “It’s definitely a plus for us.”

The Blue Jays go to Dickinson for the West Region meet a week from today. They’ll compete at the state meet a week later in Valley City.
