Benefit set up for Lisbon coach Howell
A benefit has been set up for longtime Lisbon coach and teacher Joe Howell, who underwent an 8-hour open-heart surgery on Jan. 27 to repair his aorta and replace his aortic valve.
A benefit has been set up for longtime Lisbon coach and teacher Joe Howell, who underwent an 8-hour open-heart surgery on Jan. 27 to repair his aorta and replace his aortic valve.
Howell, a Jamestown College graduate, was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame. After beginning the Lisbon cross country program in the 1970s, Howell coached the track and cross country teams at Lisbon for more than 35 years, earning 33 region championships.
Howell also coached the Lisbon 1992 state championship football team.
