In Extemporaneous Speaking, where the speakers are given three current event quotations and one hour to write a speech seven minutes long (with sources cited), Kelsey Becker placed seventh and Cassie Reidburn fifth. Becker also placed fifth with her Speech to Persuade about NASA Funding. Reidburn also placed third in Serious Dramatic Duo with her partner, Libby Kruse; Kruse also took sixth-place honors in Serious Prose and fourth in Poetry.
Jasmine Glasgow placed sixth in Radio Broadcasting and fourth with her Speech to Inform, while Elise Opp finished eighth in Dramatic Interpretation. Stephanie Trouba placed fourth with her Speech to Entertain, and Jessica Vandal finished fourth as well in Storytelling. Mikayla Patel and Emily Lauinger placed third in Humorous Dramatic Duo.
In impromptu, a speaker gets two quotations and decides which quotation he or she agrees or disagrees with. The speaker then formulates the speech in his or her mind and gives the speech all in seven minutes. All four of the Impromptu speakers made finals: Jana Lynch finished eighth, Kassi Manley, sixth; Reidburn, fifth; and Morgan Baumgartner, fourth.
Six more events were qualified for the state meet: Hunter Carpenter placed first in Storytelling, McIntyre won Entertain, Lynch and McIntyre qualified in Humorous Dramatic Duo, Lynch and Baumgartner won Serious Dramatic Duo, and Morgan Baumgartner placed first in both Poetry and Serious Prose.
The next meet is Saturday in Mandan, N.D.
