It’s that time of the year where people can break out of the winter doldrums and catch a glimpse of what’s new in sports and recreation.
The Sport and Recreation Show returns to the Civic Center this weekend with close to 140 vendors displaying everything outdoors.
“We kind of almost got it split off to where we have the men’s interest stuff on one side of the Civic Center and the ladies’ interest stuff on the other side,” said Lynn Lambrecht, Ingstad Family Media sales manager, sponsor of the show. “So there’s going to be something there for both of them to see — it’s not just a guy’s show.”
Hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. There is no admission charge.
Vendors will completely fill the top level of the Civic Center, with boats and recreational vehicles taking up the entire ground floor space.
Lambrecht said the show keeps growing each year. This year she expects between 1,000 and 1,500 people per day.
“Everybody is up to here being inside; they’re looking forward to the idea of getting out to camp pretty soon or going out on the lake pretty soon. So it is perfect timing I think,” she said.
Local vendors will be on hand, but the Sport and Recreation Show draws vendors from around the region.
New this year is Zaps Legacy Canoes from Foley, Minn. The booth will feature handmade wooden canoes, including a canoe made special for the Jamestown show.
Everything from jewelry to spices to outboard motors to wildlife groups will be at the Civic Center this weekend.
“Shake a stick at it and we probably got a booth space,” Lambrecht said.
The Jamestown Optimist Club is again hosting its spaghetti feed at 6 p.m. Friday.
A consignment auction is set for Saturday in the Exchequer Room, hosted by Kastet Auction Service. The auction will feature guns, coins, a boat, outboard motor and many other items.
A Raptor Show from Rapid City, S.D., is back again and will have shows at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The show features a variety of birds of prey that people can get a close look at.
Lambrecht said there will be something for everyone.
“We have a great Sport and Recreation Show coming,” she said. “We have a Civic Center almost jam- packed full. I’m looking at my map right now; there are maybe two booth spaces that we don’t already have sold. The upper floor and lower level are jam-packed full.”
