Several wins and a record for JC in Bemidji

The Jimmie track teams capped the indoor season with nine wins and another school record Thursday night in Bemidji, Minn.

Mike Findlay broke Garrett Tenney’s record in the weight throw, which stood for less than a week. Findlay led a 2-3-4 finish with a mark of 52-10, eclipsing Tenney’s 52-4, who was third Thursday and Michael Brousseau fourth.

Nikki Iverson increased her top pentathlon score by 190 points with 4 PRs out of the five events, including a big jump in the 800 meters (2:23.34). Other PRs were in the hurdles (9.91) and shot (29-2). She also won the open long jump (16-8.50). Coach Jim Clark said Iverson should move into the top 16 when the result lists are posted on Monday. Iverson has already qualified for nationals next month in Geneva, Ohio.

In the 800 she trailed only teammate Rachel Perish’s winning 2:23.34.

Four other women captured wins.

Micki Glass took the high jump (5-1); Alyssa Sanders the 400 (63.43); Trisha Sem the triple jump (30-9) and Samantha Goff the 1,000 (3:08.32).

Emerald Gyuricza PRed again in the pole vault at 10-5.50.

The JC men went 1-2-3 in the 50 hurdles with Scott Roemmich across first in 8.62. Runner-up Kaleb Garcia PRed (8.64). Trent Roemmich was third (8.79).

Joe Ikier was a double-winner, taking both the triple (40-7) and pole vault (12-11.75).

Kendall Wiltzen and Spencer Kamoni went 1-2 in the 1,000 with the winning time at 2:44.34.

Connor Doppler had another PR in the 3,000, finishing in 9:42.20.

Lance Johansen and Malcolm Jenkins went 2-3 in both the 60 and 200. Times were 7.38/7.39 and 23.53/23.73.

Jesse Hacker’s 46.11.50 edged both Findlay and Brousseau in the shot.

The meet featured the Jimmies, Valley City State, Bemidji State and Wisconsin-Superior.

“For a real small meet there was some good competition,” JC men’s coach Ed Crawford said. “We had a lot of good performances.”

The first outdoor meet comes April 6 in Aberdeen.
