Zane Braun is on track to defend his state title, while Jaden Horsted is into the semifinals at the state wrestling meet at the Fargodome.

Braun pinned his way into the semifinals and needed less than two total minutes to do it. Braun is undefeated at 37-0.

“Zane was pretty dominant. He looked good,” said coach Greg White.

Horsted, who improved to 36-3, won by injury default in the opening round and then beat sixth-seeded Michael Bell of Fargo South, 5-3. The third-seeded Horsted faces No. 2 Curt Zachmeier of Mandan today when the semifinals kick off at 5 p.m.

Elsewhere, the Blue Jays got wins from No. 6 seed Paxton Mewes at 113. Mewes won his opening match by pin, but then lost.

The surprise win came at 220 where Kyle Anderson stuck eighth-seeded David Kjera of Fargo South at 1:27.

“That was a nice win for Kyle. It was good to get those points and upset,” White said.

The Blue Jays wrestled only 13 matches. Mitch Ova (138), Mark Reynolds (285), Triston Shipley (182), Brandyn Harr (160) and Caleb Ellingson (170) each went 0-1 and begin wrestlebacks this morning.

“We did what we were supposed to do except in one match (Anderson’s win),” White said. “Hopefully we can come out and wrestle tough (today).”
