Class B roundup: Dist. 7 tourney off and running

New Rockford-Sheyenne, Harvey-Wells County and Carrington each posted opening-round wins at the District 7 tournament in Devils Lake on Thursday night.

New Rockford-Sheyenne, Harvey-Wells County and Carrington each posted opening-round wins at the District 7 tournament in Devils Lake on Thursday night.

The Rockets got 18 points from Chance LaBrie in their 49-43 win over Lakota-Adams-Edmore. The Rockets will face top-seeded Four Winds-Minnewaukan tonight in the semifinals. Seth Gilliss added 13 in the win. Jacob Lommen hit for 10.

Andrew Alveshere scored 17 points, while Mark Nyhus added 15, Evan Nitz 13 and Jason Beck 10 as Harvey-Wells County routed Warwick 77-45.

Antoine Motley had a game-best 20 points to top Warwick.

Carrington hung 24 first-quarter points on the board en route to a 61-52 win over Midkota.

Austin Johnson’s 16 points led the winners. Scott Burnham had 14 and Seth Abaurrea 13.

Austin Monson poured in a tournament-high 27 points for Midkota.

Girls Linton-HMB 42, Ellendale 39 OT

It took overtime to decide it, and in the end the Lions picked up a 3-point victory over the Cardinals in Ellendale in a Region 3 girls basketball matchup.

McKenna Flyberg (18 points) and Alex Umber (16) did most of the offensive damage for the Lions. Flyberg hit a trio of 3-pointers in the game, as the two teams combined for 29 points at the free-throw line.

Ellendale’s Madilyn Bommersbach matched Flyberg’s effort with 18 points of her own to lead the home team.

A big fourth period by Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier lifted the Rebels past the Firebirds in Edgeley.

Leading just 32-31 after three, the Rebels outscored Central Prairie 22-10 over the final 8 minutes to stroll to victory. The Rebels’ Kelsey Feist hit a trey and went 7-for-9 at the free-throw line in the final period, on her way to a game-high 18 points.

The Firebirds were led by Noelle Moser’s 16 points, as the Firebirds would eventually lose Courtney Heupel and Jaycee Moldenhauer to fouls.
