Representatives of the James River Humane Society say the organization was never contacted about the beagle rescued from dangerously cold weather conditions earlier this month.
The juvenile suspected of abandoning the beagle was referred to juvenile authorities on a charge of animal neglect.
According to Detective Jason Falk of the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, the juvenile claimed she had tried to bring the dog to the Humane Society, but it had not accepted the beagle.
On Thursday, Kris Meidinger, dog manager at the JRHS, said no one at the Humane Society had been contacted about the beagle in question.
