Jays split in Williston

It was over early in the opener in Williston. The Blue Jays scored 31 of the game’s first 37 points en route to an 87-32 beating of the Coyotes. It was the beginning of a busy stretch for the Jays basketball teams with 13 games in the next seven games. They play another doubleheader in Dickinson tonight.

It was over early in the opener in Williston.

The Blue Jays scored 31 of the game’s first 37 points en route to an 87-32 beating of the Coyotes.

It was the beginning of a busy stretch for the Jays basketball teams with 13 games in the next seven games. They play another doubleheader in Dickinson tonight.

Jamestown improved to 7-3 in the West Region and 9-4 overall with the win.

Four Blue Jays scored in double figures. Kyra Dewald scored 16 of her game-high 24 points in the opening half as the Blue Jays scored 44 points in the first 18 minutes and nearly matched it with 43 in the second half.

Billie Buchanan pumped in 17 points in the win for JHS. Rebekah Horgan and Erin Mullowney each contributed 10 points.

Jamestown was equally effective defensively, allowing just 16 points to the winless Coyotes (0-12, 0-15) in each half.

Williston 61, JHS 51

The Coyotes outscored the Blue Jays 34-23 in the second half to earn their third victory of the season.

Jamestown (1-9, 2-11) led 28-27 at halftime, but scored just 23 second-half points in dropping their seventh straight game.

The Blue Jays knocked down five first-half 3-pointers, but cooled considerably over the last 18 minutes.

Williston, meanwhile, made five second half 3s.

Freshman Logan Anderson was the lone Blue Jay in double figures with 11 points.

Jayden Ferguson pumped in a game-high 20 for Williston.
