Hoeven: N.D. ready to test drones

North Dakota Sen. John Hoeven said the state is “well-positioned” to be one of six test sites for unmanned aircraft in the United States.

BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota Sen. John Hoeven said the state is “well-positioned” to be one of six test sites for unmanned aircraft in the United States.

The Federal Aviation Administration on Thursday announced the formal selection process for the research facilities. Applicants have 80 days to submit proposals.

The North Dakota site would be located in the Grand Forks area, which is home to military and border patrol drones, as well as unmanned aircraft programs at the University of North Dakota and nearby Northland Community and Technical College in Minnesota.
