Ellendale wins D5 semifinal

Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal and Ellendale squeaked out hotly contested wins at the opening day of the District 5 tournament in Ellendale on Saturday. Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal outscored Barnes County North 15-12 in the fourth quarter for a narrow 54-52 win.

Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal and Ellendale squeaked out hotly contested wins at the opening day of the District 5 tournament in Ellendale on Saturday.

Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal outscored Barnes County North 15-12 in the fourth quarter for a narrow 54-52 win.

Each of the Rebels’ five starters had seven points or more with Shawn Baker (16) and J.R. Perleberg (13) leading the way.

Brad Clemens did the heavy lifting for the Bison, pouring in 28 of their 52 points to go along with 14 rebounds. Jacoby Kramlich was a rebound short of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Host Ellendale earned a spot in the championship game Tuesday night with a 46-43 victory over Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier.

Adam White had 20 points and Shawn Hoffer 10 for the winners. It was tied 34-all after three quarters. Shawn Hofer added 10 points and Zach Dathe nine for the Cardinals, who led 22-20 at halftime. Both teams finished 9-of-15 from the free-throw line.

Conner Entzi’s 13 led the Rebels, who play Barnes County North in a loserout game Monday.

Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal and 10th-ranked LaMoure-Litchville-Marion meet in a semifinal Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Tournament

Kidder County won big and South Border also claimed a victory at the District 6 tournament in Napoleon where Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock was idle as the top seed in Napoleon.

Kidder County took an 11-2 lead after one period over the Imperials and led the rest of the way.

Ryan Sand (17), Ben Steinolfson (13) and Cole Scherbenske (11) were all in double figures for the Pirates.

Nobody had more than seven for the Imperials.

Michael Jacobson sank four 3-pointers on his way to 25 points to help South Border over Central Prairie 59-50.

Ross Knoll added 11 for the Mustangs. Brett Williams had a nice 22-point effort for the Firebirds while Wyatt Staloch added 14.

District 2 Tournament

Central Cass and Fargo Oak Grove will meet for the District 2 tournament title. Ellery Bresnahan poured in 34 points to help Central Cass over Maple Valley.

Maple Valley led 22-12 after the opening quarter, but was outscored 65-48 over the final three frames. Jordan Haseleu led the Raiders with 22 points. Brady Behm added 17.

Jordan Funfar and Tyler Christianson had 11 points each in Fargo Oak Grove’s 77-70 win over Enderlin.

The Eagles were topped by Coltin Huus and Thomas Lindgren with 14 points each.

Austen Archer torched Northern Cass for 27 points as Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page beat Northern Cass in a loser-out contest. Austin Bring added 14 and Lucas Montag 13.

In the other loser-out contest, Ryan Bolme had 19 points, including four 3-pointers to help Richland top Kindred 53-51.

Lisbon led 14-5 after the opening quarter and never looked back in a 51-23 win over Barnes County North in girls basketball action Saturday. Saraya Deibert led all scorers with 18 points for the Broncos. Miranda Ripplinger contributed 10 in the win. Sam Wieland topped the Bison with 10 markers.

Central Prairie received three 3-pointers apiece from Courtney Heupel and Brooke Krapp, propelling the Firebirds past the Barnes County North Bison in Wimbledon on Friday night.

Heupel and Krapp each finished the game scoring 11 points, but Central Prairie was led by Madison Moldenhauer’s 12-point night. The Firebirds outscored the home team 17-4 in the first behind a trey from Heupel and two of Krapp’s three long balls. It was Central Prairie’s final game of the regular season.

Kayla Scott and Sam Weiland paced the Bison scoring 16 and 10 points, respectively. BCN goes to Midkota on Thursday before hosting Oakes on Friday in its regular-season finale.
