DICKINSON — It was ugly, but the Dickinson High boys basketball team will take it.
Jordan Krieg had game highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Midgets held off Jamestown for a 58-55 West Region victory Saturday night at the DHS gymnasium.
“We got lucky to walk away with a win,” Dickinson head coach John Wilson said. “Right now, we’re still struggling with those little things.”
It was a game defined by miscues. The Midgets committed 27 turnovers while Jamestown had 32.
Dickinson watched double-digit leads evaporate in both the first and second half. The Blue Jays (2-12, 1-10 West) led 34-32 at halftime and clawed their way back after falling behind in the second half.
“The record doesn’t matter, the name on the jersey, you’ve got to learn to play basketball in our system, our team, the way we want to,” Wilson said.
Jaden Kudrna added 12 points and six rebounds while Dylan Skabo had 10 points for Dickinson, which improved to 8-8 overall and 5-8 in the West.
The Midgets shot 25 of 51 (49 percent) from the field.
Krieg, however, was the difference-maker.
The 6-foot-4 senior center shot 9 of 10 from the field and 3 of 4 from the freethrow line against double and triple teams.
“It’s unbelievable the stuff he gets thrown at him,” Wilson said. “The doubles, the triples. He’s right up there with the best kids we’ve had come through our program. He loves the challenge. He takes what people throw at him.”
David Hanson had 16 points and six rebounds to lead Jamestown while Austin Remmick scored 15 points, all on 3-pointers. Scott Nelson came off the bench to add 13 points, hitting all three shots he attempted from 3-point range.
