Jays’ Schaack earns West coaching honor

Jamestown High School girls hockey coach Brad Schaack was recently voted the 2012-13 West Region Coach of the Year by his peers.

Jamestown High School girls hockey coach Brad Schaack was recently voted the 2012-13 West Region Coach of the Year by his peers.

Schaack guided the Blue Jays to the second-best overall record in the state this season at 17-6, and he is also leading Jamestown to its fourth consecutive state tournament appearance this week in Grand Forks.

Jamestown is the tournament’s No. 4 seed and will be facing No. 5-seeded Fargo South/Davies (14-9) at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Blue Jays picking up All-West Region honors this season were seniors Amber Schaack, Carrisa Finck and Steph Kamlitz, and junior Brenna Pritchert.

West Fargo coach Pat Johnson was voted East Region Coach of the Year. This year’s state coach of the year, between either Johnson or Schaack, will be announced at the conclusion of the state tournament.
