Bob Toso, superintendent of Jamestown Public Schools, received the North Dakota Counseling Association “Friend of Counseling Award” during the NDCA Conference Feb. 4 in Bismarck. The award is given to a person instrumental in the promotion and/or support of the counseling profession in North Dakota.

Toso was nominated by the Jamestown Public School Counseling Department for his support of local counseling programs both in Jamestown and in his previous school district of Valley City.

A news release said Toso has been instrumental in adding a counselor to the staff, adding a secretary to the high school counseling department, supporting professional development for local counselors (including the ASCA national conference in Minneapolis last summer) and has supported the idea of “growing our own counselors” by providing district stipends to get a master’s degree in school counseling. He consults with counselors on issues affecting students and asks for input from counselors on a variety of issues.
