Engineer, retired engineer visit class

Submitted photo David Leer, second from right, retired North Dakota Department of Transportation engineer, Bismarck, and Jay Praska, right, DOT engineer from the Valley City District, gave presentations in Don Haufschild’s chemistry and physics classes Feb. 5 at Jamestown High School. The presentations were sponsored by the NDDOT, which has been offering the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials Transportation and Civil Engineering Program to schools in North Dakota for several years. The TRAC program engages high school and middle school students in solving real-world problems, such as designing bridges, or analyzing the environmental and economic effects of building a highway. By bringing transportation professionals to the classroom, TRAC connects kids to the work world and works to inspire them to consider careers in transportation and civil engineering.
