Optimist Club cites athletes for awards

Alex Lind and Zane Braun of Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Nikki Iverson and Scott Roemmich have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.
Lind, a senior gymnast for the Blue Jays, was named Senior Athlete of the Year at the West Region meet. She placed second in the all around and was in the top four in all five events.
Braun, a senior wrestler at JHS, earned runner-up honors at 152 pounds at the state meet. He finished with a record of 36-1 on the season and was 129-40 in his career.
Iverson, a sophomore on the JC track team from Jamestown, scored a career-best 2,996 points in the pentathlon in Bemidji, Minn. Her score was certified in the top 16 on the NAIA performance list, making her eligible for nationals in Geneva, Ohio next weekend.
Roemmich, a senior from Linton on the JC track team, won the 60-meter hurdles (8.62) in Bemidji, falling 0.2 seconds short of qualifying for nationals.
