GRAND FORKS — An alleged shoplifting in Grand Forks led to a car chase and then a foot chase before police were able to arrest the suspect Thursday, the police department said.

Steven Robert Schubert, 27, Williston, is expected to be charged with possessing stolen property and drug paraphernalia, driving while under suspension, fleeing police in a vehicle and on foot, and leaving the scene of an accident, according to a Grand Forks Police news release.

About 1 p.m., officers responded to a report that a shoplifter had left Famous Footwear off 32nd Avenue South in a white pickup. Police spotted the pickup nearby and gave chase. It ended at the 1800 block of 30th Avenue South when the pickup plowed into a van, causing “severe damage,” the release said.

Schubert, the driver, and another male in the pickup ran away. Officers spotted Schubert a short time later on 28th Avenue South, chased him down and arrested him.
