The Jamestown High School girls basketball team has become a train that’s hard to stop.

The Blue Jay locomotive continued Friday night in Bismarck, where Kyra Dewald exploded for 37 points as No. 4 Jamestown downed No. 5 Bismarck High 83-77 in West Region action. The win gave the Jays a season sweep of Bismarck, the preseason No. 1 in the state.

Dewald finished 10-of-20 from the floor to go with a 13-of-14 performance from the free-throw line. The West Region’s leading scorer had 14 of her team’s first 22 points as the Blue Jays staked an early eight-point lead.

It became even worse for the Demons midway through the first half, as Jamestown opened up a 19-point advantage at 37-18 before Bismarck closed out the half with a 7-2 run.

McKayla Orr finished with 17 points, while Billie Buchanan added 16 in the win, which gives Jamestown the inside track on the No. 2 seed behind Century, which has locked up the top spot.

The Blue Jays still need to beat Williston, Bismarck St. Mary’s and Dickinson the rest of the way, three of the bottom four teams in the region. Jamestown improved to 9-3 in the region and 11-4 overall.

Boys

Jamestown was once again led by freshman Logan Anderson, who finished with a team-high 10 points in the loss. Ashton Johnson and Alex McInnes added six points each for Jamestown, which dropped to 1-12 in the region and 2-24 overall.

Both Blue Jay squads welcome in Williston today, starting with the girls at 3:30 p.m.
