Unattended smoking material was the apparent cause of a small fire Monday in a Jamestown College dorm room.

The Jamestown Fire Department was dispatched at 10:15 a.m. to an already extinguished fire in Watson Hall on the campus of Jamestown College. According to a report by Lt. Sheldon Mohr, the fire was put out by college maintenance staff. Five units and 30 firefighters responded to the call and were on scene for 45 minutes. The firefighters ventilated the smoke out of the building by opening doors and windows and using fans.

Mohr said the dorm room did receive minor smoke damage and there was residue from the fire extinguisher used to douse the fire. He did not have a cost estimate for the damage.

No injuries were reported and the building was evacuated when the fire alarm went off.
