Board student member to bring up chancellor buyout
The student representative on the state Board of Higher Education says he will bring up a proposed contract buyout of the university system chancellor at the next board meeting.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The student representative on the state Board of Higher Education says he will bring up a proposed contract buyout of the university system chancellor at the next board meeting.
Fargo Sen. Tony Grindberg plans to offer a floor amendment to the higher education funding bill to buy out the final two years of Hamid Shirvani's three-year contract.
Sydney Hull, the state board's student member, says he has no choice but to raise the issue after the North Dakota Student Association expressed a vote of “no confidence” in Shirvani.
Hull says, “It is obvious wherever you stand on the issue that there are problems.”
University system spokeswoman Linda Donlin tells the Forum that a statement by board leaders expressing confidence in Shirvani “speaks for itself.”
The board meets March 7.
