A 27-year-old Pingree, N.D., man has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and driving while under the influence of drugs, according to the Jamestown Police Department.

Clerical Supervisor Sue Pfaff said at 8:46 p.m. Monday in the 1500 block of Sixth Avenue Southwest Officer Mike Germain arrested James J. Goodroad on the Class C felony charge.

According to the report, Germain was driving behind Goodroad on 600 block of 16th Street Southwest, when Goodroad struck the curb while turning into an alley and allegedly started driving erratically.

Goodroad was able to get through the alley and a snowbank in the 1500 block of Sixth Avenue Southwest. As he went through the snowbank, the trunk on his vehicle popped open and Germain reported he saw a shotgun in the trunk.

Police conducted a field sobriety test on Goodroad and arrested him on the charge of driving while under the influence of a drug or substance.

The gun in Goodroad’s trunk was identified as a Benelli SuperNova Max-4 pump-action shotgun with a camouflage finish.

According to Tracey Trapp, commander of the Stutsman County Correctional Center, Goodroad remains in custody as of Tuesday.

A Class C felony is punishable by a $5,000 fine and five years in prison.
