Jamestown Speech Team takes fourth; Parents’ Day is Saturday

The Jamestown Speech Team traveled to St. Mary’s High School Saturday and placed fourth out of 27 teams at its largest meet of the year.

The Jamestown Speech Team traveled to St. Mary’s High School Saturday and placed fourth out of 27 teams at its largest meet of the year.

Kassi Manley finished as Top Novice in Impromptu Speaking, Jordan Montgomery earned Top Novice in Persuade, and Anavah Cole was named Top Novice in Serious Prose. A novice in speech is any seventh grade, eighth grade, or first year freshman speech team member. The Top Novice at a meet is the speaker who scores the highest in that event from that group of speakers.

Cole also finished fifth in Extemporaneous Programmed Reading. Libby Kruse and Cassie Reidburn placed seventh in Serious Dramatic Duo; additionally, Reidburn finished second in Extemp Speaking, which earned her a state qualification in that event. Kruse also finished third in Poetry. Jasmine Glasgow placed seventh with her Speech to Inform and Hunter Carpenter finished fifth in Storytelling. Kelsey Becker earned a fifth with her Speech to Persuade, and Brittany McIntyre finished fifth as well in Entertain. McIntyre and Jana Lynch finished second with their Humorous Dramatic Duo.

The team is at home this Saturday with Parents’ Day. Even though it is Parents’ Day, the public is invited to attend. It will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday on the third floor of the middle school. Admission is free.
