Area athletes cited for awards

Alex Lind and Riley Thom of Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Hannah Steele and Darren Iseri have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Lind, a senior gymnast for the Blue Jays, placed third in all around with a career-best 37.767, and on floor at the state meet in Valley City. She placed in the top five in four events and was named the state’s Outstanding Senior Athlete.

Thom, a junior diver for the Blue Jays, placed fourth at the West Region meet and was named all-conference.

Steele, a junior on the JC women’s basketball team from Circle Pines, Minn., was named the A.I.I. tournament MVP with 27 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and two steals in the Jimmies’ two wins, which qualified them for the NAIA national tournament.

Iseri, a junior on the Jimmie baseball team from Lake Stevens, Wash., pitched a 7-innning, complete game in his first career start in a win over St. Ambrose at the Metrodome. He allowed two hits, no earned runs and struck out a pair.
