Lions take third in Region 3: Four Winds-Minnewaukan defeats No. 2 North Star for Region 4 title

Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock closed its season with a win, defeating Strasburg-Zeeland 54-46 in the third-place game of the Region 3 tournament at the Civic Center on Thursday night.

Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock closed its season with a win, defeating Strasburg-Zeeland 54-46 in the third-place game of the Region 3 tournament at the Civic Center on Thursday night.

Ryan Schneider had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lions, who led after each quarter. Tyler Humann added 14 points in the win. Brooks Flyberg posted nine and Travis Baumiller dished out four assists.

Mason Kramer was the lone Clipper in double figures with 10 points.

Both teams struggled offensively with identical 18-of-56 shooting performances for 32 percent.

The Lions made 14 of 21 free throws, while the Clippers had just seven attempts, making five.

Region 4

Four Winds-Minnewaukan got hot late and earned a trip to state.

Leading 43-42 after three quarters, the fifth-ranked Indians outscored No. 2 North Star 23-14 in the final frame to pull away for a 66-56 win in the Region 4 championship game at the Devils Lake Sports Center.

Collin Delorme and Trayvon McKay each had 18 points to lead the Indians, who avenged one of their two losses by beating the Bearcats. Hadley Smith was also in double figures with 11 points. Delorme also had 11 rebounds as did Austin Longie, who added nine points.

North Star senior star Jacob Hagler did his part for the Bearcats, pouring in a game-high 30 points. He went 11-of-23 from the floor.

Both teams left points in the floor. The Indians missed seven free throws and the Bearcats 10.

Carrington closed its season with 65-63 win over St. John in the third-place game.

The Cardinals scored 18 first-quarter points, but St. John made it interesting with a 23-point third.

Scott Burnham had 21 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cardinals. Austin Johnson added 11 points and nine boards. Alex Nelson had nine, while Cole Hendrickson and Seth Abaurrea added eight each.

Lisbon opened the District 1 tournament with a 60-44 win over Sargent Central on its home court Thursday night.

Saraya Diebert poured in 20 points for the Loboes, who scored 19 first-quarter points. Christine Opp contributed 12 for the victors.

Jamie Mlnarik had 17 of the Cadets’ total.
