Jamestown College standout Michael Nord was the last Jimmie to lose out the first day of the NAIA national wrestling tournament in Des Moines,?Iowa.
Nord, a 165-pounder, won his first match, getting a bye past the first round and punching his ticket to the quarterfinals by beating Gian Traverson of Missouri Valley College by 17-9 major decision. However, Great Falls’ Shawn Lau upended him 3-1 to send him into the consolation bracket. He was pinned in the third period by Midland’s Sterling Terry to end his tournament.
Sean Blumhardt also received a bye into the second round, where he fell to Lindsey Wilson’s Ethan Miller by 6-4 decision. He came back with a pin in 3:43 over Josh Williamson of Wayland Baptist, but lost out against Indiana Tech’s Kristoph McKinley in consolation round action by 3-1 overtime decision.
Jaykob Miller (157)?and Antonio Lopez (heavyweight) both lost their first two matches.
Miller lost Missouri Valley’s Dylan King by 6-4 decision and to Michael?Gonzalez of Cumberland 6-0.
Lopez was pinned in the opening round by Eric Thompson of Grand View in 1:09, and lost by 4-1 decision to Indiana Tech’s Logan Rimmer.
