The host team New Rockford-Sheyenne, along with Carrington and Midkota, all survived the opening round of the District 7 Girls Basketball Tournament on Friday night.
Today’s semifinals will begin at 5:30 p.m. at New Rockford-Sheyenne High School, with the Rockets facing No. 1-seeded Lakota-Adams Edmore and Carrington vs. Midkota to follow.
The Rockets overcame a 9-point, 33-24, deficit to the Harvey-Wells County Hornets after three periods to roll to victory in the first game of the day by the final of 36-35.
Lacey Grann led New Rockford-Sheyenne with 13 points, while Harvey-Wells County’s Alecia Koropatnicki scored a game-high 19.
The first period of quarterfinal game No. 2 between Carrington and Warwick told the tale. The Cards built a commanding 22-1 lead over the Warriors after the first eight minutes, cruising to a 73-37 victory.
Jacey Engelhorn led four Carrington athletes in double figures with 20 points. Samone Motley paced Warwick scoring 16.
In the nightcap it was Midkota overcoming Four Winds-Minnewaukan 65-38, behind 15 points apiece from Brooke Ronningen and Saddie Harding. Dawn Black tossed in the most for the Indians with 10.
Today’s games will start at 4 with Warwick facing Four Winds-Minnewaukan in loser-out play.

The South Border Mustangs and the Kidder County Pirates are moving on after Day 1 of the District 6 girls tournament in Wishek
South Border’s Kalli Scherbenske tossed in 16 points, while teammate Madison Schnabel added an additional 11, helping the Mustangs defeat Strasburg-Zeeland 41-30. The Clippers were led by Ali Wolf with 10 points.
Kidder County used Sadie Rohrich’s 14 points and Paige Schmidt’s 10 to get past Central Prairie by the final of 48-31. Schmidt had a pair of first-half 3-pointers, helping the Pirates lead 22-15 at the half.
The Firebirds were led by Jaycee Moldenhauer’s 11 points.
The tournament resumes today at 6 p.m. with No. 3-ranked Napoleon facing South Border, while Linton-HMB will square off against Kidder County in the semifinals.

Oakes’ Nicole Warren dropped in 20 points, helping the Tornadoes get past Hankinson 65-45 in the District 1 tourney.
The Tornadoes will meet up with Milnor in the semifinals in Oakes tonight, which will be the final game of the day. Also in the semifinals, Lisbon will be facing F-C-T.

Maple Valley freshman Rylee Nudell dropped in 32 points, while collecting 12 rebounds and 3 steals, helping the Raiders defeat Finley-Sharon-Hope Page 55-38 in the quarterfinals of the District 2 tournament at the Fargo Civic Auditorium.
F-S-H-P trailed just 25-22 at the half, but the Raiders stretched their legs in the third. Chauna Ihry and Madison Koenig led F-S-H-P with eight points each. Nudell went 13-of-17 from the field and 4-of-4 at the free-throw line.
In the other quarterfinal games, Central Cass defeated Richland 76-15, Enderlin topped Oak Grove 45-42 and Kindred defeated Northern Cass 56-42. F-S-H-P will face Northern Cass today at around 4:30 p.m. in loser-out play.
The semifinals will have Central Cass facing Enderlin and Maple Valley squaring off against Kindred.

Olivia Anderson’s 16 points and 10 rebounds lifted the No. 5-seeded Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier Rebels past the No. 4-seeded Barnes County North Bison by the final of 36-20 during the opening round of the District 5 tournament in LaMoure.
The Bison struggled offensively, converting just 6 of 38 field goals in the game. The team was led by Calby Hanson with eight points, while E-K-M’s Kelsey Feist hit a pair of 3-pointers and also topped double figures in scoring with 10.
The Rebels outrebounded the Bison 42-22.
LaMoure-Litchville-Marion edged Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal 41-36 in the first semifinal. Scoring was not reported.
The win puts the Loboes in the district championship game, where they await the winner of Ellendale and Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier, which play at 7:30 p.m. today. The title tilt is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday.
P-B-K drops into consolation action against BCN at 6 p.m. today.
