Steven Hetletvedt, an EMT with Jamestown Area Ambulance, was recently recognized by the board of directors of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for achieving 20 consecutive years as a Nationally Registered EMT. This distinction is an honor held by few EMTs.
To maintain his status as a Nationally Registered EMT, Hetletvedt completes, on a biennial basis, the most comprehensive recerti- fication program for emergency medical technicians in America. He not only completes courses to refresh his fundamental knowledge and skills but also attends a minimum of two hours per month of additional continuing education courses to advance his knowledge on new lifesaving skills.
By maintaining his Nationally Registered status and completing a regular continuing education course, Hetletvedt is among the few elite EMTs with the most training in pre-hospital emergency medical care in the nation.
Hetletvedt was Nationally Registered as an EMT in May 1992 and has served in various parts of the country, most recently in Jamestown. The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians serves as the national EMS certification organization by providing a valid, uniform process to assess the knowledge and skills required for competent practice by EMS professionals throughout their careers and by maintaining a registry of certification status.
