The Minnesota Vikings thinned out their receiving corps even more on Monday.
The team announced it had cut Michael Jenkins, who had been with the team the past two seasons.
Jenkins was due an $825,000 salary, but the Vikings cut him before his $2.425 million March roster bonus came due. The move clears $3.25 million in cap space.
Jenkins, who turns 31 in June, had 40 catches for 449 yards and two touchdowns last season.
The Vikings are expected to address the wide receiver position this offseason. Percy Harvin is entering the final year of his rookie contract. The team insists it wants to resign Harvin, but speculation has also centered around a possible trade.
The team, according to reports, also is expected to have interest in Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings. The 30-year-old Jennings was not franchised by the Packers by Monday’s deadline, meaning he will be free to sign with any team when free agency begins March 12.
