Ellendale takes District 5: Cardinals top Loboes for title, earn top region seed

Ellendale held LaMoure-Litchville-Marion to just 17 points in the first three quarters and held on for a 44-37 win in the District 5 tournament championship game on Monday night.
The Cardinals led 13-5 after the opening quarter and had it up to 14 (31-17) after three. The Loboes scored 20 points over the final eight minutes, but could not come all the way back.
Madilyn Bommersbach and Rachel Herman each had 14-point games in the win for the Cardinals, while Dacey Fuller added seven.
Courtney Carlson added 11 points to pace the Loboes. Tanys Ulmer added eight points and eight rebounds.
The Cardinals and Loboes will be the No. 1 and 2 seeds out of District 5 for the Region 3 tournament, March 11-12 and 14 in Hazelton.
P-B-K 42, E-K-M 30
Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal sewed up the No. 3 seed with a 42-30 win over Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier in the third-place game. Both teams advance to the region tournament.
District 5 Senior Player of the Year Amanda Beckley carried the load for the Rebels with nine points and 12 rebounds in the triumph. Morgan Thomas had a team-best 10 points, while Morgan Thomas added six points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier had just 18 points after the first three quarters.
The Rebels were led by nine points, nine rebounds and five blocks from Olivia Anderson.
