The 10th annual Remember Our Serving Soldiers, or R.O.S.S. event, will take place Saturday at the West Fargo (N.D.) VFW Post 7564. The event features a variety of events to raise money to support the nonprofit family readiness groups for local military units.
This year’s event includes a lunch of barbecues and chips from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for $3, a silent auction from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., bingo from 2 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a meat raffle and prizes from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A memorial program at 4 p.m. will honor those North Dakotans who have died in the global war on terrorism. It will be followed by a steak fry from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $6 for those 14 and younger. Steak fry tickets can be purchased in advance at the VFW or from military families.
All activities take place at the West Fargo VFW, which hosts and sponsors the event. The groups benefiting from the funds raised include the local U.S. Navy Reserve family group, the North Dakota Air National Guard’s 119th Wing Family Readiness Group, and family readiness groups with the following North Dakota Army National Guard units: 426th Signal Network Support Company, Company A of the 231st Brigade Support Battalion, Company B of the 231st Brigade Support Battalion, Battery C of the 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 188th Army Band, Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 141st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade and the 191st Military Police Company.
More than $80,000 has been raised during the previous nine years of the event.
The VFW will accept donations of cash and silent auction items through Friday. For more information, contact Charlie Weible, event founder, at the West Fargo VFW at 701-282-4728.
