Zonta learns about Triumph at meeting

Guest speakers at the February meeting of Zonta of Jamestown were Ann Ede and Jennifer Barnard, co-founders of Triumph Inc. Triumph offers vocational training and daily living support for developmentally disabled adults as well as the elderly. Services offered include supported living arrangements, respite care, escort to medical appointments, dressing, bathing and other personal care. For those of employment age vocational development programs and a supported employment program are offered. It is Triumph’s belief that everyone deserves competitive employment and a fair wage.

Disappearance theories surrounding Amelia Earhart was the topic for the 120 seconds on women’s issues. One such theory states that Earhart was spying on the Japanese, another that she was Tokyo Rose and that her husband listened to broadcasts to see if he could hear her voice. Still to this day many are searching for positive proof of what happened to Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan. Earhart was an active member of Zonta International up until her disappearance.

The annual Hope, Health and Healing’s Breast Cancer Brunch will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Zonta of Jamestown will provide and serve the brunch for anyone who has dealt with breast cancer including friends and caregivers. Special guest speaker will be author of “No Lumps, Thank You,” Meg Spielman Peldo. All members were encouraged to contact their representatives in support of the Violence Against Women Act. As of this printing Congress has reauthorized this legislation offering protection to women and children with new protections added for Native American women and children.
