Optimist Club honors athletes

Jamestown High School’s Andy Oslund, along with Jamestown College’s Taylor Brown and Mitch Stevens, were all selected as athletes of the week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Oslund, a junior on the Blue Jay boys swimming and diving team, placed in a pair of events during the state meet in Bismarck on Saturday. Oslund placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (49.83) and eighth in the 50 free (23.24).

Brown, a sophomore on the Jimmie women’s track and field team, placed 10th in the high jump at the NAIA national indoor meet championships in Geneva, Ohio on Saturday. The Cavalier native cleared 5-3 on her first attempt and finished in a four-way tie for 10th place.

Stevens, a junior on the Jimmie baseball team, knocked in a run in the third inning, and his ground-rule double in the seventh iced a 6-2 win over Concordia-St. Paul at the Metrodome on Tuesday. Stevens, of Wheaton, Illinois, was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs, while recording 8 putouts and an assist at first base.
