The Arts After School program was initiated due to the lack of opportunities for area youth to pursue creative activities.
This need was expressed by the youth themselves in a city-sponsored survey. Started in 1999, Arts After School provides students in grades 3, 4, and 5 an art lesson with a professional artist every school day.
The students’ work shown here is reflective of their growth through the Arts After School program.
During the 2012-2013 year, the students have worked in a variety of mediums showcasing imagination and creativity.
Some of the mediums shown in this exhibit are: watercolor, chalk pastels, collage, acrylic, India ink and mosaics.
Often, students are given a medium and a theme to create from, and then the wheel is all theirs.
