MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The number of temporary federal housing units still occupied in Ward County has dropped to about 400.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency made more than 2,000 mobile homes available to residents displaced by the historic Souris River flood in the summer of 2011. FEMA last year extended the temporary housing program by six months, through June 24, though the agency began charging rent at the beginning of this year.
FEMA also is selling some of the temporary homes to the people living in them. At the end of February, 68 sales had been finalized.
