Runners clad in emerald apparel won’t be the only green flowing into Jamestown for the 35th Annual Runnin O’ the Green next Saturday.
When all is said and done, Jamestown can expect close to $450,000 in economic impact here from the runners, according to Lance Brower, independent economic development consultant.
Brower used a number of assumptions to come up with the final direct impact of $319,539, indirect impact of $74,143 and induced impact of $53,615.
His study assumes 1,000 people will eat 2.5 meals in Jamestown estimated at $13, those 1,000 will spend two nights in a hotel/motel with an average of $75 a night, 500 people will buy 15 gallons of gas at $3.69 per gallon and 2,000 runners will spend an average of $50 at the bars throughout the course of the day.
Brower called those figures “extremely conservative.” More than 2,000 people registered for and participated in the run in 2012.
The direct impact of $319,539 is money people spend here directly, at restaurants, hotels, bars, gas stations and other retail business.
The indirect impact of $74,143, is other funds business spend to keep up with the demand. For example if 500 cases of beer are sold over the course of the run, one indirect impact would be the distributor ordering more and paying extra to ship it.
The induced impact of $56,315 would be whatever wages people would earn from working during the run and put back into the community.
Those three types of impacts eventually affect every type of business here from business support services to flour milling and malt manufacturing.
