A bad start was too much to overcome for the fourth-ranked Blue Jay girls basketball team on Friday.
Bismarck scored the first 13 points of the game and never trailed in knocking off Jamestown 60-51 in semifinal action of the West Region tournament at the Bismarck Civic Center.
The Blue Jays had not lost since Jan. 31 and had their 10-game winning streak snapped. They also had beaten the Demons twice during the regular season. As a result, they’ll have to win their way into state today when they take on Minot at 11 a.m. The teams split two regular season meetings.
Earlier Friday, the Blue Jay boys had their season come to an end against Bismarck in loser-out play.

The Blue Jays dug a hole too deep to get out after the Demons led 13-0 four-plus minutes in. They slowly chipped away and had the deficit down to 34-28 at halftime.
Jamestown got within three points late in the second half, but couldn’t complete the comeback in large part of a cold-shooting game from 3-point range. The Blue Jays misfired on all 12 of their attempts from deep.
Junior post Paige Peterson had 13 points and 14 rebounds to pace the 16-5 Blue Jays. Kyra Dewald added 12, but JHS scored just 23 second-half points. McKayla Orr had five steals and four assists.
Seven Bismarck (14-7) players had four points or more with RyLee Meier leading the way with 12 points.

The Demons put themselves into a state-qualifying game by rolling over the Blue Jays for a third time this season.
Taylor Schafer led the winners with 14 points.
Alex McInnes had a game-high nine points as the season came to an end for the Blue Jays at 3-19.
