MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Brett Knowles scored in overtime as Minnesota State, Mankato beat North Dakota 2-1 Saturday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Knowles beat Zane Gothberg at 3:22 of the extra period to deny North Dakota a share of the MacNaughton Cup, which goes to the WCHA’s regular season champion.
St. Cloud State and Minnesota will share the title. The Gophers beat Bemidji State 5-1 Saturday night, while the Huskies lost to Wisconsin, 3-2.
Mavericks goalie Stephon Williams allowed Danny Kristo’s goal just 1:03 into the game and nothing after that. He made 30 saves, including three in overtime.
Gothberg made 35 saves for UND. Dylan Margonari tied the game 1-1 at 19:35 of the second period.
MSUM outshot North Dakota 37-31.
