The public will get a chance to comment on a future land use plan for Jamestown and the surrounding area next month, according to Stephanie Falkers, planner for SRF Consulting, which provides planning consulting services for city of Jamestown.
Falkers, speaking at Monday’s Jamestown Planning Commission meeting, said comments will be accepted during an open house event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on April 4, at the Quality Inn & Suites.
The proposal includes planned future uses for areas within the city limits and the territory within two miles of city limits. Falkers said she has gathered input from city, county and Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. officials.
“This is the public comment process for the growth management plan,” Falkers said. “These plans do not affect current use or zoning.”
Falkers emphasized the plans are still preliminary and in draft form. She said further maps and information would be available before the meeting.
In other business, the Jamestown Planning Commission will be under new leadership as it moves forward. Dave Hillerud was elected commission chairman Monday.
Hillerud replaces Harley Trefz, whose nomination for the chairmanship died for a lack of a second.
Jane Trautman was elected vice chairman, defeating incumbent Paulette Ritter for the post. The election of officers had been delayed from earlier meetings due to low attendance. The new officers will serve through the end of the year.
The commission also approved a final plat known as Creative Energy Addition in Midway Township. The preliminary approval for the plat was passed on Sept. 10, with modifications to the road access made for the final plat.
